In honor of Valentines day – an anti-gush poem…

What it doesn’t do

hearts

Loneliness doesn’t stab,

It slides rain falls

inside a slow cascade of

Sliding ice pulls you under,

Freezes over.

No room to breathe.

No place to hide.

Rejection doesn’t burn,

It stabs slips the blade in

deep fear is a poison,

an infection that keeps

the wound open, stops

the healing, an ever present

warning, Beware of

feeling afraid to

reach out of the pain stealing

Your breath catching

without rest, afraid to ask

for love you need but fear

you won’t receive.
